AIRPORT ROAD, St. MaartenWINAIR had the pleasure of the company of an aspiring aviation mechanic these past weeks.

Deshawne Richardson, born and raised St. Maarten, graduated Cum Laude at the St. Maarten Academy and went to Tallahassee Community College, Florida to continue his pursuit to become an aerospace engineer.

After gaining his prerequisites he has continued his studies at the University of Central Florida in Orlando since January 2014, where he worked diligently for his associates’ degree.

Now as he readies himself to start his bachelor studies, which will start this month, Deshawne took the opportunity to experience all the facets of working at WINAIR’s maintenance department.

His interest and focus on mechanics came natural to Deshawne, as he watched his father working as a mechanic. As his fascination grew, he felt he even wanted to take it a step further and decided aviation mechanics was his path.

Describing his 2-week internship at WINAIR, Deshawne was mostly grateful for the willingness and enthusiasm the WINAIR employees had to help in experience and learn the basics of the theory he has learned so far.

The focus on the practical side of aviation maintenance has given him a true feel for the work and all in entails.
