The St. Maarten constitution was initially drafted eight (8) years ago and the final version of the constitution received the approval of the island council of St. Maarten this year.
Leader of government who led the St. Maarten delegation to The Hague, William Marlin, had the opportunity after the signing of the Round Table Conference (RTC) resolutions, to present the St. Maarten constitution to key dignitaries.
They included the Chairman of the (RTC) Prime Minister of Holland Jan Peter Balkenende, the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Antilles Emily de Jongh-Elhage, Dutch State Secretary Ank Bijleveld-Schouten and to all of the delegations leaders that were present in Holland for the (RTC).
During the welcoming ceremony on Friday, commissioner William presented a hard copy of the St. Maarten constitution to all members of the island council of St. Maarten that was present for the event.
It was also presented to the man who has been credited for getting the constitutional train moving, former constitutional affairs Minister, Attorney Richard Gibson.
