Central Bank Governor Gets Injunction To Block Dismissal

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados  –  Lawyers representing embattled Central Bank Governor Dr. Delisle Worrell say the High Court will on Wednesday hear arguments restraining the Barbados government on moving to dismiss their client.

The lawyers on Sunday obtained an ex-parte injunction from the High Court against Finance Minister Chris Sinckler amid mounting speculation that pressure was mounting on Worrell, who was appointed for a second five-year term in October 2014 after he was initially appointed on November 1, 2009, to either step down or be fired.

“So we sought to get an injunction to restrain the exercise of that discretion that the Minister believes he has and he will have to return to court on Wednesday.

if he wants to show cause as to why the injunction be varied or discharged,” attorney Gregory Nicholls has said.

“He should come and make his position known before the court on Wednesday,” he added.
