U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS - The United States Virgin Islands (USVI) shared a message of resilience and recovery last week with travel stakeholders and influencers in Mérida, Mexico and Dallas, Texas.
Participating at the 24th annual Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) Cruise Conference and Trade Show in Mérida, a delegation from the Territory, led by the Department of Tourism, the Virgin Islands Port Authority (VIPA) and The West Indian Company Limited (WICO), updated cruise executives and industry partners on the islands' status for the return of cruise ships in November following back-to-back Category 5 hurricanes in September.
Commissioner of Tourism Beverly Nicholson-Doty and the leadership of WICO and VIPA, including WICO CEO Clifford Graham and VIPA Executive Director David Mapp, engaged in one-on-one meetings with executives from cruise industry partners, including Carnival Corporation, Disney Cruise Line, MSC Cruises and Royal Caribbean International.

ST. KITTS - NEVIS - The opposition Leader Dr.Denzil Douglas remains mum with regards to the high profile recent arrest of Antigua MP Asot Micheal. Micheal who is a well known close associate of Dr. Denzil Douglas and the SKN Opposition Labour Party, flew into Gatwick Airport, south of London, when investigators from the UK’s National Crime Agency picked him up..

Michael, who has lead responsibility for Antigua and Barbuda’s citizenship by investment (CBI) programme, was reportedly en route to Cannes, France to speak at a CBI conference when he was detained and arrested. Within hours Prime Minister of Antigua-Barbuda Gaston Browne advised the Governor-General of Antigua to immediately revoke the appointment of Asot Michael, Minister of Tourism and Investment, pending the outcome of his arrest Monday morning by the London Metropolitan Police.

Micheal was at the center of a political furor back in 2012 when it was revealed that he was a member of a St.Kitts-Nevis Delegation headed by then Prime Minister Douglas that travelled to India . The trip and the presence of Micheal in the delegation raised eyebrows as the Indian media identified Micheal as the Foreign Minister of St.Kitts-Nevis while yet another Asian media outlet described Micheal as the Foreign Affairs Minister of Antigua and Barbuda.

ST. KITTS - Consultant and Former CEO of the St.Kitts-Nevis Anguilla National Bank Ms Dawne Williams was recently elected to the executive board of the Business and Professsional Women BPW International. Ms Williams was elected as the Regional Co-ordinator North America and the Caribbean.
The new Executive Member and former President of the BPW St.Kitts chapter Williams , was among a delegation of ten BPW delegates who travelled to Cairo.

Egypt to attend the triennial congress which is being held under the theme Making a Difference Through Leadership and Action.
Business and Professional Women from 65 countries world-wide registered to attend the XXIX BPW International Congress which took place over the period 23-27 October 2017. The conference brought together professional women leaders from around the world to share their experience and passion for empowering and supporting women all over the globe.
Ms Williams was elected President of the reactivated BPW St.Kitts in 2013 after the club’s long period of dormancy.

CARIBBEAN NETHERLANDS - On Wednesday October 25th, the acting island Governor of St. Eustatius Mr. Julian Woodley and the Reconstruction Team, held their first round of meetings with homeowners who have suffered lost during the passage of hurricanes Irma and Maria. This first meeting targeted the 12 most urgent cases. Homeowners were explained how and when the reconstruction of their homes will take place. During the course of next week a second meeting is planned for the remaining homeowners also affected by the hurricanes.

On Wednesday the Acting Island Governor and the Recovery Team met also with approximately 14 building contractors to inform them of the role they will play in the process of rebuilding almost 80 homes that were affected during the hurricanes in September. The reconstruction will take place in stages with the 12 most critical cases being handled first.

PORT OF SPAIN - From May 2017, discussions have been   ongoing between CARILEC and CANTO in the formulation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which included, inter alia, agreement on the joint promotion of the current CARILEC Smart Grid Symposium in Trinidad, October 23-26, 2017.
The MOU articulates the agreement between the parties to explore and implement initiatives focused on the following areas of common interest and priorities in the energy and information and communications technology (ICT) sectors: Training and Capacity Building; Conferences and Networking; Smart Grid Infrastructure and Applications, Business Development and Consulting opportunities.
