WILLEMSTAD – The Public Prosecution Service in Curaçao is investigating how former Minister of Finance George Jamaloodin could have had a telephone in his prison cell. Jamaloodin is locked in the new prison in Bonaire.
A mobile phone was found during an inspection. That was discovered when guards heard Jamaloodin talking. He is the only one in that wing of the prison in the evening. Jamaloodin falls under the responsibility of the Public Prosecutor of Curaçao. They have announced that they are not only investigating how the phone has been put in the cell, but also who has called Jamaloodin.
The former minister is behind bars on suspicion of involvement in organizing the murder of politician Helmin Wiels. Wiels was shot in Curaçao on May 5, 2013.
