WiILLEMSTAD, Curacao – Tuesday morning at 07:00 is the impetus given to the international exercise “Très colossus. This happened with a foot march to Fort Nassau. Très Kolos has a ‘colorful’ participants. In addition to the Dutch and Arubian marines from Aruba also take the Curaçao Militia, the FRISC-boat group, the marine detachment of Sint Maarten, and the support vessel Zr.Ms. Pelican part in the exercise. The international character is formed by the soldiers of the 33rd Infantry Regiment d’Navy (RIMA) from Martinique.
From 6 to November 15 more than 200 soldiers compete against each other. The first phase of the exercise has a strong competitive. This phase tests the soldiers their military and physical skills together. So face the participants with orientation missions, tactical orders and a marksmanship test. Today the so-called “cliff amphibious assault” took place. The nine teams started this morning with a speed march on Fort Nassau, and then abseiling from there, to make a swimming and sailing courses in the Bay Versali. The teams and their boat had arrived at the station to make a speed march route to then demonstrate their shooting skills. Each component earn teams (criminal) points. This Friday has completed the first phase and it becomes clear which team is the strongest.
In the second stage – which runs from 11 to 15 November – have to face the military with a scenario in which the units have to work together, but it also compete against each other and need to overpower each other. In this phase, the focus is on matching different procedures, techniques and tactics. Thereby helping improve the cooperation of the participating strategic partners and are better prepared for a possible joint efforts. Interoperability is actually put to the test by this exercise and a good knowledge takes place.
The support vessel Zr.Ms. Pelican acts during the exercise as amphibious platform. The various sub exercises take place at different locations Wacawa, Ascension, Santa Cruz, San Hironimo, Santa Barbara, Newport (Table Mountain), Fort Nassau Bay Versali, Anna Bay and Fuikbay.
