PHILIPSBURG - A number of store were broken into during the morning hours of Thursday on Front Street.
Apart from the physical damage, the store owners suffered extensive loss as a large quantity of jewelery were stolen by the thieves who were seen running away from the scene wearing white sneakers.
Mr. Harry Shahani the owner of Be Dazzled Jewlers stated that the police were called to attend to the crime but the response was virtually non existent. One of the business men stated that he was told by the officer who answered the phone that the police had more important things to do at the time.
The police arrived after 9am on Thursday to do their investigation. The stores are also protected by the ADT security company but their equipment and response was also useless when it mattered most.
The thieves during their early morning operation, cut close to 50 phone lines to ensure that no alarms went off during their act. They also tried to access a safe which is located in one of the stores, but their attempt failed.
Hoping that things get "Safer" here the gentlemen is saying in the interview?!! Keep dreaming buddy and hopefully, just hopefully, one day it might come through; that is if we don't end up killing each other first.
If you look at how cables are being routed thru the Island it's all sloppy work it's so easy to get at any cable wheter it's Gebe or telem. Look around at the buildings cables are hanging all how and it's realy a ugly sight this goes for the water meter connection as well it's all one big mess
LOL... well if the police stop giving tickets for minor offences... like tint.. and phone... Maybe if they stop driving around in AC all day... Maybe Just Maybe they can concentrate on the bigger crimes, like robery and them unsolved murders...
You don't know the VKS doesn't get paid unless they were summoned by the police force to attend to something. I think it is 50 guilders for that particular job. If I am wrong, please enlighten me. The VKS wears an uniform and is stationed in the police station, never heard of the word "for nothing". Well that is taking place for the VKS officers. Very few have a permanent contract and those that were employed by the island government and have been lent out to the VKS maintaining they receive their former salary. So do not blame VKS. They can not act without the orders of the local police. Who has to give those orders.? Well I do not know.
To "shame on them" I believe your car is tinted and because of fellows like you that is why crime is so high. The criminals drive around in tinted cars looking where they can break-into. They have guns pointed at you and you dont even know. Police/Vks are people too with their families to protect. You people passby crime on a daily basis and do nothing and expect the police to solve these crimes that you witness and keep your mouths shut. I guess the illegals and others are fulling their pockets before they get picked-up. Look at the children with new things. It is sad that these kids think that it is okay to steal.
well they must have left a finger print somewhere and some how i hope they catch them come on detective's do the job.
people work very hard.this is so sad
IT NEED MORE POLICEMEN ON THE ROAD. INPOSSIBLE THAT NO ONE SAW NOTHING.EVEYBODY IS GETTING FED UP WITH THESE THEIVES PEOPLE ARE GOING TO START TAKING THE LAW IN THERE OWN HANDS/
