PHILIPSBURG - Erno Labega Jr.  who was arrested on Thursday February 11th, was released from police custody last week.

He was arrested on the orders of the public prosecutor as he tried to travel to Curacao.

Labega who is represented by Brooks and Associates was released because there was not enough evidence to hold him.

Chief Prosecutor Hans Moss who initially confirmed the arrest stated that he was suspected of being involved with the transportation of cocaine to the United States.

However prosecutor Reink Mudd stated on Thursday that the Judge did not believe that there was enough evidence to warrant his further detention.

More from Prosecutor Mudd can now be heard via PodCast.

Please stop making mention of E.L. as news. I do not see what he was arrested
and suspected as a big thing. Others do worst things and do not end up being
news worthy. But I have seen when you have a certain last name or your family is
high up in society, I have noticed the police and especially the Prosecutors are
out to nail them. Please...... EL is no news for whoever wants to make news or
promotion. Take that laughing face of this person off your website. He is a
nobody and a number. Remember that.

They arrest you on suspicion, or simply because someone file a false but
credible complaint against you...then expect you, while innocent behind bars to
provide them with proof and evidence against yourself...confessing to stuff they
try pin on you...so they could take you to court and secure a conviction. Now
creating an angry person with a police record....prepared this time to really do
a crime.
Yeah   |200.7.62.xxx |2010-02-26 03:02:23
The prosecutors are making criminals out of non criminals by accussing and
convicting you for things you did not do. Yeah promotion for them, even if it is
false convition. Talk about falsely convicted persons here on this island.
Especially in DNA cases. Families should try to obtain the DNA that the
prosecutors have. Do they know what DNA is anyway. This is needed in certain
cases. We are just slaves anyway. Just like what News said. They are the
masters. Poor we.... country status while we are still slaves of the European
Dutchman

keep on harrassing them its people like them who think they above the law...and
when you have a high profile lot of people does check what you doing...so they
have a responsibility not only to themselves and God but also to the
community...cuz if they get away with it why shouldn't i?
get real   |200.7.37.xxx |2010-02-26 04:44:00
What the forks (lack of better word) is wrong with you people one minute you all
want the police to do there jobs, BUT when it happen to be a friend or a family
of some of you then they are not doing there jobs correctly. That is what wrong
in St. Maarten, some may do and get lock up for it and other do the same crime
and they most get away with it because they family name is high on society
list.
Labaga families high up in society my ass they got there by who they know
and who they can bribe. But watch out times are changing
Unfair   |72.252.9.xxx |2010-02-26 04:53:41
Well, the suspect was fully named the next day as he was detained. Yet it took
a whole week after his release to tell that part of the story. MMMMMMMMMMM.
Wow, the media biases continue.

to "get real" were you bribed by a Labega? I know many Labegas and they
are decent, kind and generous people. You sound like politics is fuming from
your mouth. Get a life! How many no-name, well-name, no-like, pretty, ugly
people are locked up and release and nobody hear anything. So stop. Elections
are over.

labega's never had to bribe , they were born with all what they have and they
never had to beg nobody. why dont all you all negative people start writing your
real names. people buy property from Labega's heritage to become somewhere.alot
did. government did not give labegas what they have, they born and meet it in
their family. some of you foreigners so stupid.
last word   |200.7.52.xxx |2010-02-27 13:53:17
I think you all should stop critizing each other of who have what and who was
born with what unfortunately you labega's have the golden spoon in your mouth,
but the police have a job to do if he was that innocent then his name would not
have been mentioned. If he respect his parents for who they are his little
a....... would not have spent days locked up.
And this is for everyone rich or
poor the law enforcement officers are there to protect and serve so don't blame
them.
