DSC_0017PHILIPSBURG - Prime Minister Emily de Jongh El-Hage says there could very well be a new Lt. Governor before October 10th, 2010.

Sources have indicated that St. Maarten's Lt. Governor Franklyn Richards may leave office on March 1st. Reportedly Roland Tuitt or Reynold Groenevelt would replace him, but the Prime Minister is not confirming or denying these changes.

De Jongh El-Hage says there is a possibility that one or more Lt. Governor's may leave office before the new countries are established on October 10, 2010.

At that time they would be out of a job on St. Maarten & Curacao because the new countries will have Prime Ministers.

"Maybe the Lt. Governors will leave because they got a new job, because they have to look for himself and then we have to see, but at this point no," she told the media on Friday.

In the new structure the Prime Minister of St. Maarten and the one of Curacao will head their respectively elected administrations. Right now the Lt. Governor sits as Chair of the Executive Council. The Governor of the country will simply be the representative of the Sovereign with no seat or vote in the government.

Saba, St. Eustatius or Bonaire will maintain their Lt. Governors because their relationship with the Netherlands as public entities will allow for this system to be maintained.

Is it possible for Lt. Gov. Richards of SM or Lt. Gov. Richards-Dindial of
Curacao to be appointed Governor on their islands when the status of their
island changes?

I hope for all those who are criticizing everything of the past, get exactly
what they deserve.

I see SXM just falling, falling, falling and I am hurting,
hurting, hurting. I want my beautiful, prosperous, "gem" back. Oh why
does things have to change. If they change for the better you don't mind. But
all I am seeing is this Island that Claude (jump high, jump low, he did) worked
so hard to build up and put on the map just being destroyed by a bunch of power
struck people who don't give a heck about no one else but themselves.

I could
understand if the Lt. Gov. is leaving to fill another position but why do we
have to criticize him? He did his best under the circumstances. Let me see what
will be done in the period when he is gone. You do not miss the water till the
well run dry.

Yes, I hope all those rejoicing about all the changes, get
exactly what they deserve and I pray for their sakes that it is positive.
