MARIGOT - Councillor Louis Mussington of French St. Martin wants the Collectivité of St. Martin to make its intentions known about its plans to develop the waterfront.
According to Mussington, the government has no clear plans for the Waterfront development and the company SEMSEMAR, of which he is a member of the Board of Directors, seems to be doing what it wants. Besides that, he said First Vice President of the Collectivité, Daniel Gibs is presenting a second plan on the project.
"This matter has to be clarified before there can be a clear voting on the level of the SEMSEMAR. So far it does seem there is no clear position of the Collectivité as to the development of the harbour," Mussington said.
Mussington also believes the people should be given the opportunity to decide on the development of the Waterfront. "The people should be given an opportunity to voice their opinion on this matter.
I stand strong to the view that there should be an urgent meeting of the council and I hope this matter will be on the floor of Friday's meeting of the council; the president can give a clear statement (on the matter)," Mussington said.
A board meeting was to be held this Thursday to discuss the matter but Mussington said it is not clear what position will be defended because of the indecisiveness of the government on the issue.
Meanwhile, Mussington said it does not seem there is coherence in the government majority as the Vice President Gibs is presenting something else on the development but the Collectivité is silent on the issue.
He is calling for the people to pay close attention to these developments. The project is expected to cost between 18 and 20 million Euros, Mussington said and it should start April 2010 and completed sometime in 2011.
