PHILIPSBURG - “It is time to relocate the One Tété Lohkay statue,” said Shujah Reiph in an invited comment by www.sxmislandtime.com on Sunday.
After witnessing the cleaning up of the Lohkay’s roundabout located between Belair and Cay Hill, www.sxmislandtime.com contacted Shujah Reiph who last week forcefully condemned the island government for leaving Lohkay’s roundabout in such a dilapidated condition for over two years.
“While I welcome cleaning up of the Lohkay’s roundabout, that’s not enough we need to put Lohkay on the top of the mountain where she deserved to be,” said Reiph.
The cultural activist thinks that the Lohkay statue should be place on the top of Cole Bay Hill with the proper honor this legendary anti-slavery heroine deserved and government should provide for the upkeep of the site on a consistence bases.

Reiph also opposed the absurd excuse that was published in a news paper on Friday, November 27, stating, “there simply no funds available to repair the roundabout.”
“Are honestly saying that government public works department can’t cleanup our environment,” asked Reiph. Reiph also thinks this statement is a total insult to the people of St. Martin.
The Chapter of Professional Young People used their Sunday morning to clean up the surroundings of the One Tété Lohkay statue located at the Cay Hill/Belair roundabout.
President of the CPYP Marinka Gumbs told us that they decided to clean the roundabout due to the state that the roundabout was in.
She further stated that they believe that Government cannot do everything and as such, they decided to take an active role to get the job done.
