Councilman Clyde van Putten steps down as faction leader in Island Council

ST. EUSTATIUS - According to reports reaching our news department, leader of government on St. Eustatius, Councilman Clyde van Putten has tendered his resignation from the position of faction leader in the Island Council of St. Eustatius.

Our source also stated that the Councilman’s decision to step down from the position as faction leader is in keeping with the commitment van Putten made at the beginning of his term, when he mentioned that he would only serve half of the term in that capacity and would pass on the responsibilities of faction leader to Council lady, Richeline Leerdam, thus giving her the opportunity to garner the experience.

During the 2015 Island Council election on St. Eustatius, Miss Leerdam, who occupied the number 3 slot on the party’s slate received 50 votes. The 2nd highest vote getter on the PLP slate in the election was Charles Woodley, who is at present, occupying the position of Finance Commissioner in the executive branch of government on Statia.

However, Councilman Clyde van Putten remains the leader of government as well as leader of the PLP
